Many families abandoned their homes in the industrial zone as well as Pancevo itself. 10,000 people wandered throughout southern Vojvodina for two nights trying to evade the poisonous fumes. Organized evacuation of the residential area in its vicinity has begun. The cloud of smoke was 2 km/1.2 miles high and 60km/36 miles long and it was spreading towards the border with Romania.
