Istok

NATO hit the outer wall of Istok prison and made an escape passage for the prisoners. There are some indications that this was done deliberately, since around 1000 captured KLA members were held in the prison.

Prison guards transport injured prisoners with almost destroyed emergency vehicle.

At 08.40 on 05-21-1999 prison in Istok was hit with two missiles. One man was killed and one woman was seriously injured. Attack was repeated at 09.20 with ten missiles. Second attack left nine people dead, including deputy governor. At least ten people were injured. Prison was attacked three times in past three days. Prison governor stated that number of prisoners escaped after a first attack today. Currently in prison there is a large number of KLA members.
